Mogadishu, Somalia : In a significant announcement, Somalia’s National Security Advisor, Hussein Sheikh-Ali, declared on Friday that Somalia anticipates the complete withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from its territory by the end of December 2024. According to Hussein Sheikh-Ali, these Ethiopian forces will not participate in the AU-led missions following the conclusion of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia mission by December.
Instead, Somalia is currently engaged in negotiations with international partners to establish multinational forces that will assume operational responsibilities within Somalia starting from January 2025. This decision marks a pivotal shift in Somalia’s security dynamics and reflects the nation’s strategic reconfiguration towards a more diverse and inclusive approach to peacekeeping and stability operations.
