TPLF Accused of Involvement in Sudan Conflict and Human Rights Abuses in Ethiopia

Recent reports have surfaced indicating that the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), a
group originally designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government, is now allegedly
involved in the ongoing conflict in Sudan. According to sources, the TPLF is said to be fighting
alongside the forces of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan against the Rapid Support Forces
(RSF) led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

The TPLF, which has had a tumultuous history in the Horn of Africa, has been accused of
destabilizing regional peace and security. Originally a dominant political force in Ethiopian
politics, the TPLF was ousted from power following a conflict with the broader Ethiopian

following a military coup in 2021, which saw the overthrow of the transitional government. The
conflict between Al-Burhan’s army and the RSF has only intensified the instability.

expressed concern over the reports of TPLF’s activities both within Ethiopia and in Sudan,

populations.
